[News S = Reporter Cheon Ui-hyun] Suwon Special City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it ranked 1st among 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province's evaluation of "2026 Intensive Safety Inspection Implementation Results." Yongin City and Ansan City recorded 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.
Suwon City conducted inspections at 122 facilities across 25 facility types over 61 days from April 20 to June 19. The inspection targets consisted of 37 facilities delegated by central government ministries, 78 facilities selected by local governments, and 7 facilities requested for citizen inspection—the highest number among Gyeonggi Province cities and counties. The inspection involved 723 participants, including 263 civil servants, 337 private experts, and 123 public enterprise officials and citizens.
Inspection results showed that 57 facilities had no issues, while 65 facilities required corrective measures. Of these, 39 facilities have completed remediation, 17 facilities are scheduled to complete repairs and reinforcement in the second half of this year, and 9 facilities are expected to be completed by 2027.
Suwon City will be prioritized as a candidate for outstanding city or county designation in the government commendation for intensive safety inspections. A Suwon City official stated, "Through continuous inspections and preventive activities, we will create a safe city where citizens can live with peace of mind."
