Hwaseong Special City held its first 'contract-grown rice' harvesting event on the 21st at Yangjidul in Eumyang-ri, Jeongnam-myeon, Hyohaeng-gu.

The event was attended by Lee Hong-geun, a member of the Gyeonggi Province Council, along with officials including Kim Jo-hyang, Director of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Bureau, Choi Byeong-ju, Chief of Hyohaeng-gu Office, Lee Taek-gu, Chief of Byeongjeom-gu Office, Kim Kyung-sik, head of Jeongnam Agricultural Cooperative, Choi Hak-un, chairman of the Social Organizations Council, and local farmers, who shared in the joy of this year's first rice harvest.

The rice harvested on this day was Hitomebore variety, known as 'rice that captivates at first sight,' bearing fruit 117 days after transplanting on April 26th.

The harvest area was approximately 12,684 square meters (3,840 pyeong). Hitomebore is characterized by its excellent sweetness and stickiness when cooked, fragrant aroma, transparent grain appearance, and lustrous sheen.

Woo Dong-hak, head of Eumyang 2-ri Village, who participated in the first rice harvest, said, "I am delighted to safely harvest the rice I cultivated with care," and added, "I will work hard to produce high-quality rice with excellent taste and quality to grace the tables of 1.07 million Hwaseong Special City residents."

Kim Jo-hyang, Director of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Bureau, stated, "It is meaningful to celebrate this year's first rice harvest together with local farmers," and continued, "We will carefully monitor the challenges farmers face in the field and implement substantive support so that farmers can produce high-quality rice in a stable farming environment."

Meanwhile, Hwaseong Special City has allocated 1.7 billion won for seedbed medium soil support projects and 5.575 billion won for rice pest control projects in 2026 to establish a stable rice production base and alleviate the management burden on farmers.
