News S predicted in its editorial on the 7th that this year would see more people participating in the Suwon Night Tour ("Pay More Attention to Visitor Safety at the 2026 Suwon National Heritage Night Tour"). It also anticipated that the influx of tourists would invigorate nearby commercial districts.

The prediction proved accurate. The '2026 Suwon National Heritage Night Tour,' composed of an '8 Nights' program featuring eight themes—including night scenery, night paths, night history, night paintings, night stories, night markets, night cuisine, and overnight accommodations—drew over 264,000 visitors, more than double last year's 100,000, achieving great success.

The city actively addressed visitor safety concerns related to event venue congestion. It also received praise for its preparedness in the management of cultural heritage, which is often neglected at night. However, the chronic parking problem remains an unresolved challenge.

It was evaluated as the most successful event in the program's history. Nearby merchants were elated with the influx of customers. One small roasted chicken restaurant even had to close early due to a shortage of chicken supply.

Following continued positive feedback from citizens and tourists, the city decided to extend the Suwon National Heritage Night Tour through the 30th. Suwon National Heritage Night Tour Abruptly Extended') "This is to allow more citizens and tourists to enjoy the beautiful night scenery of Suwon Hwaseong and to provide practical benefits to revitalizing the local commercial sector," a city official stated.

Of course, not all programs from the past three days will be repeated during the extended period. Attractions will continue at three locations, including the 'Yongryeon Lantern Festival' and 'Banghwa Bridge Lanterns' that decorated the Yongryeon area, the 'Hwahongmun Media Art' displayed around Hwahongmun Gate, and nighttime lighting effects along Maehyang Bridge and Suwon Stream. On the 21st, 22nd, 28th, and 29th, traditional Korean music performances 'Hwahong Pungryu' will be held in the Yongryeon area. The Suwon Hwaseong Palace will host the 'Joseon Moonlight Market' and 'Haenggung Willow Market' in connection with late-night openings.

This year's Suwon National Heritage Night Tour was a successful event. It was the result of efforts by Suwon City, the Suwon Foundation for Culture and Arts, and various organizations and residents in the Suwon area working together as one. Regarding the success factors of the night tour, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, a foundation official explained that it is due to diverse nighttime programs combining the historical value of national heritage with contemporary cultural content.

That is well said. Beyond that, the night tour has evolved with each passing year. This year alone, the city expanded event programs and spaces, strengthened media art and smart technology-based content, creating a more abundant and diverse event. It is already highly anticipated what evolved programs the Suwon National Heritage Night Tour will present next year as it aims to become South Korea's representative nighttime cultural heritage festival.
