The Perseid meteor shower, a nighttime cosmic show, is streaking across the midsummer dawn sky. The Perseid meteor shower occurs as Earth passes through the dust and debris field left in the orbit of the comet '109P/Swift-Tuttle.' Small particles collide with Earth's atmosphere at high speed and burn, leaving bright light trails across the night sky. The Perseid meteor shower can be observed until the early morning of the 14th.
