Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced on the 13th that it has received an 'Excellent' grade in the 2027 Renewable Energy Supply (Convergence Support) Project competition hosted by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment.

The city was selected for the convergence support project competition for the eighth consecutive year and received the excellent grade for the fourth consecutive year, gaining recognition for the excellence of its renewable energy-related policies. Although the detailed scale has not been determined as government budget has not yet been finalized, the excellent grade selection is expected to greatly assist in securing national treasury funds, as the support rate is determined according to evaluation grades.

The city participated in the competition with a plan to install △solar power (792㎾) △geothermal energy (350㎾) △solar thermal (184㎡) at a total of 134 locations including residences, buildings, and companies in industrial complexes in Wonsam-myeon and Baekam-myeon, Cheoin-gu. The project is expected to require a total budget of 2.2 billion won, including 870 million won in national treasury funds.

Starting with a resident briefing session in January next year, the city plans to sign a business agreement between resident representatives participating in the project and a consortium of participating companies (lead company Geochang Co., Ltd.). Subsequently, it will complete the installation of renewable energy facilities by the end of next year according to the schedule for each facility.

Beyond supplying renewable energy facilities, the city plans to continue promoting additional support for multi-child and pregnant woman households, which was introduced from 2025, to link with population policies next year as well.

Additionally, the city is strengthening its renewable energy policy system by introducing a proactive post-management system for facilities whose five-year mandatory post-management period has expired.

Mayor Lee Sang-il stated, "The renewable energy convergence support project, which Yongin Special City is working hard on, is expected to be an opportunity to supply facilities to energy-vulnerable areas and realize carbon-neutral values. As interest in the environment and the importance of renewable energy are increasing, the city will actively participate in competitive projects to secure national treasury funds to continuously expand the renewable energy convergence support project."
