Suwon Cheoncheon Elementary School: Students Choose Afterschool Programs for Next Year First
Suwon Cheoncheon Elementary School previewed afterschool programs scheduled to open next year, gauging student response.
The school plans to insert candidate programs slated for the 2027 academic year alongside currently operating courses to observe which classes attract students, then determine next year's offerings accordingly.
According to Suwon Cheoncheon Elementary School on the 11th, the school held a "2026 Academic Year Tuition-Based Afterschool Free Trial" from the 3rd to 7th, with 156 students from grades 1-6 participating.
Yerim Youth Culture and Arts Promotion Center, the afterschool outsourcing contractor, participated jointly. Both parties covered all course fees including instructor fees, materials and supplies, and facility costs.
There were nine programs. Total miniature, picture book gardening class, Korean history class, computer class, creative cube, violin, badminton, creative cooking, and basketball rotated one hour each day.
Classes emphasized hands-on, active learning. Students molded summer fruits from clay to fill shaved ice bowls, solved 2×2×2 pocket cubes starting from the top, and made croissant sandwiches to take home in cases.
Response varied at the registration stage. Total miniature, Korean history class, and creative cooking filled their full capacity of 22 students, while picture book gardening class also filled all 8 spots. Violin had 12 students sign up for a capacity of 13, and creative cube had 9 students for a capacity of 10.
Safety management was prioritized. In cooking and gardening classes, vinyl was laid on tables to maintain clean practice environments, while badminton and basketball classes included warm-up exercises and controlled spacing. There were no incidents over the five days.
The school plans to continue collaborating with the outsourcing contractor, community, and specialized institutions in the second semester to enhance the quality of afterschool programs.
Principal Jung Eun-young stated, "It was a meaningful time where the school and outsourcing contractor worked in harmony to provide students with beneficial learning opportunities and parents with strong confidence in afterschool programs," adding "We will continue to make multifaceted support to build an educational community where learning is joyful and teaching is fulfilling."
