Hwaseong Special City Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun Elected as 23rd Chairman of Korea Metropolitan Mayors Council
[News S=Reporter Jeon Si-eon] Hwaseong Special City Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun has been unanimously elected as the 23rd chairman of the Korea Metropolitan Mayors Council.
His term of office will run until June 2028.
Mayor Jeong said in his inaugural address, "I sincerely thank you for entrusting me with this important responsibility. I will faithfully carry out my role for the development of the council and the resolution of common issues facing member cities." He added, "I will create a powerful council where member cities can share experiences and wisdom, and work together to solve each city's challenges."
Mayor Jeong also expressed his commitment to leveraging his experience in public service, his background as a parliamentary aide, and his activities as chairman of the Special Cities Council to ensure that the voices of member cities are effectively delivered to the government and the National Assembly.
The Korea Metropolitan Mayors Council is a consultative body comprising 19 major cities nationwide with populations of 500,000 or more. Over the next two years, Mayor Jeong plans to strengthen metropolitan policy cooperation systems through collaboration with member cities.
