Icheon·Yeoju·Yangpyeong Women's Reserve Military Unit Marks 20th Anniversary
[News S=Reporter Eom In-yong] The Icheon·Yeoju·Yangpyeong Women's Reserve Military Unit, representing the 'guardians of national security' in Icheon City, Yeoju City, and Yangpyeong County, marked its 20th anniversary on the 24th.
The Women's Reserve Military Unit was established in 2006 with an initial strength of 50 members each under Army 55th Division in Icheon, Yeoju, and Yangpyeong. Since then, it has participated in various disaster relief operations, social service activities, and operational training exercises within the region.
Over the past 20 years, these members have consistently practiced dedication to their local communities and patriotism, complementing limited factors in local defense operations during both peacetime and wartime, fostering harmony with local residents, and enhancing public trust in the military.
In commemoration of the 20th anniversary, the Icheon Women's Reserve Military Unit held a founding anniversary ceremony at the 24th Battalion with approximately 60 attendees including military unit officials, personnel from Icheon City Hall, and members of veterans organizations. The event included commendation certificates and letters of appreciation for meritorious members, viewing of a video on women's reserve military activities and greetings from the Icheon Mayor, and commemorative remarks.
Kim Jeong-sik, commander of the Icheon Women's Reserve Military Unit, stated, "As a member of the women's reserve military, I have been engaged in activities hoping to contribute to national security and our local community," and added, "If opportunities arise to serve the nation and residents for 30th, 40th anniversaries and beyond, I am resolved to protect my hometown and will promptly respond to carry out any mission assigned to us."
Battalion Commander Lee Rang (Major) said, "The women's reserve military plays important roles including disaster relief and social service during peacetime, and situation reporting, mobile public relations, and recovery support in emergency situations," and continued, "In a time when the role of the reserve military has become more important than ever, we will spare no effort in supporting the women's reserve military unit to effectively carry out its missions."
