Gyeonggi Province Builds Daily Communication System with Residents Through 'Gyeonggi Love Citizens Participation Group'
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 21st that it will reflect residents' voices in policy and strengthen communication with citizens through the 'Gyeonggi Love Citizens Participation Group.'
The Gyeonggi Love Citizens Participation Group is an organization designed to gather opinions from various sectors across the province and reflect them in provincial affairs. Through public recruitment, 165 members were selected for the 4th group last month, and a total of 274 members, including 109 returning members from the 3rd group, will be active for two years starting August 1st.
The province selected participants for the citizens group by evaluating their interest in provincial affairs and level of commitment according to regional, gender, and age distribution ratios. As a result, the group is composed of diverse residents ranging from their 20s to 70s, including office workers, farmers and fishermen, self-employed individuals, homemakers, and students.
The Gyeonggi Love Citizens Participation Group engages in activities including △participating in satisfaction surveys on major provincial projects and proposing improvement and supplementary measures △participating in citizen review and evaluation for competitions, contests, and institutional assessments △conducting user tests on computer systems such as apps and websites to check functions △participating in opinion-gathering events organized by the province both online (such as soliciting discussion topics) and offline (such as seminars).
Last year, the group participated in human rights surveys and monitoring to promote residents' human rights, gathering opinions on activating residential populations in areas of concern regarding population decline, providing feedback on improving the Gyeonggi Culture Pass app, and gathering opinions on activating the development of USFK-returned areas.
Under the direction of Governor Choo Mi-ae, the province plans to introduce various communication methods starting this year so that the Gyeonggi Love Citizens Participation Group can serve as an example of communication innovation connecting the province and residents.
Accordingly, Governor Choo Mi-ae plans to directly participate in online Zoom meetings conducted by the Gyeonggi Love Citizens Participation Group to discuss major provincial issues with the group, establishing various daily communication systems that include direct communication.
Governor Choo Mi-ae stated, "Direct communication and listening to residents' opinions by the provincial governor will be the foundation for administrative innovation. In a broad area like Gyeonggi Province, we can achieve deeper communication by strengthening direct online communication without requiring large budgets. Going forward, we will innovate various public-private cooperation communication methods in the province," expressing strong commitment to communication.
Hong Deok-soo, director of Gyeonggi Province's Open Civil Affairs Office, said, "The citizens participation group, as representatives of 14.2 million residents, is expected to realize resident-participated administration and increase public empathy and understanding of provincial affairs by reflecting diverse voices in policy."
