The Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly (Speaker Nam Jong-seop) held the second meeting of the speaker's direct task force for 'Local Assembly Act Legislation' at Yedamchae within the assembly on the 20th, and discussed response strategies for the enactment of the Local Assembly Act.

The meeting was attended by a total of 18 people, including Speaker Nam Jong-seop and Task Force Leader Choi Jong-hyun (Democratic Party, Suwon District 7), and discussions were held on major pending issues and future implementation schedules to strengthen cooperation with the National Assembly and government.

Speaker Nam additionally appointed six task force members with specialized expertise to strengthen legislative response capabilities in the National Assembly as the 'Local Assembly Act' enters full-scale implementation. The newly appointed members are Representative Lee Young-bong (Democratic Party, Uijeongbu District 2), Representative Choi Chan-min (Democratic Party, Suwon District 6), Representative Lee Mi-jeong (Democratic Party, Proportional), Representative Ji Young-il (Democratic Party, Proportional), Representative Kim Hyun-seok (Democratic Party, Gwacheon), and Committee Member Cho Jung-sik (Vice President of Korean Local Assembly Studies Association). Through this additional appointment, the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly has further strengthened the task force.

At the meeting, three agenda items were discussed: △Report on additional appointment of task force members △Report on key issues in the Local Assembly Act (Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly version) △Discussion on major implementation schedule of the task force.

In particular, while discussing the key issues of the Local Assembly Act (Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly version), in-depth discussions were held on measures to strengthen assembly autonomy, including policies related to independent organizational authority, budget compilation rights, personnel management, and audit systems.

Speaker Nam Jong-seop emphasized, "The enactment of the Local Assembly Act should not be a result we simply wait to obtain, but rather a fruit created by the efforts of local assembly members and the will of local assemblies. I ask the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly task force to take the lead and join forces to ensure that the demands of local assemblies are fully reflected."

Task Force Leader Choi Jong-hyun stated, "The enactment of the Local Assembly Act is absolutely necessary for local assemblies to properly fulfill their role as independent legislative bodies representing residents," and added, "We will do our best to ensure effective legislation by cooperating closely not only with the provincial assembly but also with local assemblies across the country."

Until the Local Assembly Act is enacted, the task force will serve as a dedicated organization to strategically promote institutional improvement tasks and strengthen cooperation with the National Assembly to ensure that the positions of local assemblies are fully reflected in the legislative process.
