Six 'Suwon Hwaseong Village Craftsmen' Selected for Emergency Repairs
Suwon Special City (Mayor Lee Jae-jun) has produced six successful candidates for the National Heritage Repair Technician examination in Korean masonry through its 'Suwon Hwaseong Village Craftsmen Training Program.'
The 'Suwon Hwaseong Village Craftsmen' program, which has been operating since 2024, is designed to nurture specialized personnel to enable citizens to participate as stakeholders in cultural heritage preservation. Suwon City has been operating the program in conjunction with a business agreement with the Gyeonggi Cultural Heritage Care Center.
Six of this year's program participants passed the National Heritage Repair Technician examination in Korean masonry, achieving a 40 percent pass rate in the program's third year of operation. After gaining field experience, the successful candidates are scheduled to serve as 'Suwon Hwaseong Emergency Repair Staff' handling minor repairs to Suwon Hwaseong starting in 2027.
On the 19th, Suwon City conducted field training in cultural heritage repairs for the 'Suwon Hwaseong Village Craftsmen' program in the Dong-il-chi area of Suwon Hwaseong. Six village craftsmen learned about Suwon Hwaseong repair processes and work methods from personnel at specialized cultural heritage repair companies.
A Suwon City official stated, "The 'Suwon Hwaseong Village Craftsmen' is a meaningful program in which local residents participate as stakeholders in cultural heritage preservation," adding "We will continue to provide practical training and support so that successful candidates can fulfill their roles in the field."
