Namsuheon (南水軒), a public hanok cultural facility in Suwon, is being operated as a complex cultural space where visitors can enjoy and experience traditional culture.

Namsuheon, developed by Suwon Special City (Mayor Lee Jae-jun) near the Suwon Hwaseong fortress wall (11-453 Namsudong) is a stay-type complex cultural space offering hanok lodging and traditional culture experiences. It officially began operations on August 14 and is accepting accommodation reservations from residents and tourists.

Namsuheon is a basement-one-story, above-ground two-story facility. The first floor is an open cultural space freely accessible to all visitors, and the second floor is the hanok lodging space. The cultural space features a gallery café and a hanok library, while the hanok lodging space contains 12 hanok guest rooms.

Namsuheon is not merely an accommodation facility. It operates as a complex cultural space where visitors can enjoy tea ceremony (茶道) and meditation experiences, Korean architecture lectures, and exhibitions. Accommodation and program reservations can be made on the Namsuheon website (www.namsuheon.kr).

Namsuheon provides diverse attractions to guests by connecting with surrounding commercial areas and tourism programs.

Suwon City is pushing forward with plans to provide discount benefits at local shops to Namsuheon guests in cooperation with the nearby craft workshop street and Nammun Tongdak (fried chicken) street merchants. The city plans to create an environment where visitors' foot traffic naturally flows to surrounding commercial areas.

Suwon City plans to utilize Namsuheon as a stay-type tourism hub linked to the Suwon Hwaseong tourism special district.

When festivals are held at Suwon Hwaseong, the city will develop and operate programs linked with Suwon Hwaseong tourism programs and festivals. It also plans to develop tourism courses combining commercial areas and festivals around the Suwon Hwaseong fortress wall to create a 'stay-type tourism model' where visitors can experience traditional culture by spending the night.

A Suwon City official stated, "Namsuheon is a space where one can appreciate both the history and scenery of Suwon Hwaseong and the charm of hanok architecture," adding, "By combining lodging with cultural programs, we will develop it into a representative cultural and tourism landmark of Suwon that provides special rest and experiences for both residents and tourists." The official further expressed hopes that "Namsuheon will become a tourism hub that revitalizes the local economy and expands tourism content."
