Gyeonggi Province Launches Four-Day Eulji Exercise from August 18th to Prepare for War and Terrorism
Gyeonggi Province will conduct the Eulji Exercise from August 18th to 21st for four days in connection with relevant agencies including each municipal and county government, military units at corps level, Gyeonggi Northern and Southern Police Agencies, and Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Management Headquarters to establish regional emergency preparedness.
The Eulji Exercise is a nationwide emergency preparedness drill conducted at the whole-of-government level to protect the lives and property of citizens in the event of a national emergency such as war or terrorism.
The exercise will begin on the first day with an initial situation briefing presided over by Governor Choo Mi-ae, followed by wartime command structure formation drills and conversion to wartime system drills including operation of the wartime comprehensive situation room and wartime establishment organizations, as well as resident evacuation drills in six frontline municipalities including Gimpo City.
On the second day of the exercise, a representative Gyeonggi Province drill will be held at the Hwaseong City Agricultural Technology Center on the theme of protecting North Korean refugees, and integrated response capabilities among relevant agencies will be practiced in response to sudden situations such as civil unrest that may occur in the refugee relief process.
On the third day, a nationwide civil defense drill against air raids is scheduled for 2 p.m., with resident-participatory drills including evacuation of users of multi-use facilities and clearing roads for emergency vehicles to proceed.
Through this Eulji Exercise, the province plans to verify the effectiveness of current emergency response plans and strengthen integrated response capabilities among civilians, government agencies, military, police, and firefighting authorities in the event of an emergency.
