Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) signed a business agreement on the 11th at the Seoul Branch of the Korea Road Traffic Authority (hereinafter referred to as the Authority) to 'build and promote future convergence transportation infrastructure.'

The agreement involved Yongin Special City, Sejong Special Autonomous City, Goyang Special City, Siheung City, Dongducheon City, Gimcheon City, Seosan City, and Mappers Inc.

Through this agreement, the city plans to strengthen cooperation with the Authority on real-time traffic signal information systems and provide more convenient traffic information to citizens by linking with transportation services such as navigation platforms.

The city will cooperate on building advanced transportation infrastructure, maintenance management, and traffic information collection, while the Authority will be responsible for maintenance and management of the traffic signal information system, as well as technology development and support.

This system provides drivers with real-time traffic signal status and remaining time (in seconds), helping them adjust driving speed according to signal changes at upcoming intersections. It provides drivers with a predictable traffic environment and is effective in preventing accidents caused by sudden acceleration or braking.

Previously, the city has been constructing and operating a real-time traffic signal information system at 13 intersections within the Dongbaek district in Giheung-gu since March this year. The city plans to expand the real-time traffic signal information system to 110 major intersections by October, enabling integration with navigation platforms.

Going forward, the city plans to gradually expand the use of real-time traffic information and develop it into a foundation that can be utilized in future transportation services such as autonomous driving and next-generation intelligent transportation systems (C-ITS).

Mayor Lee Sang-il stated, "This agreement is significant in expanding the scope of utilization of real-time traffic signal information systems and related traffic information and establishing a foundation to respond to future transportation environments," adding "We will cooperate with the Authority to expand smart transportation services that citizens can experience in their daily lives and continuously expand future-oriented transportation policies."
