Suwon Special City Ranks First in Gyeonggi Province Heavy Snow Response Evaluation...Best Among 31 Cities and Counties
[News S=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Suwon Special City has been selected as the local government that handled snow removal most effectively among Gyeonggi Province's 31 cities and counties last winter.
The municipal administration received high praise for its efforts to minimize inconvenience to citizens by activating a disaster response task force before snowfall and developing a new snow removal manual.
According to Suwon City on the 7th, the city was selected as the top-performing local government in the heavy snow response category in the "2025-26 Winter Heavy Snow and Cold Wave Comprehensive Evaluation" overseen by Gyeonggi Province, securing 450 million won in financial incentives.
The evaluation period covered the winter natural disaster response period from November 15 of last year to March 15 of this year. The province evaluated all 31 cities and counties across disaster prevention and response, including preparedness achievements, emergency duty system operations, and chief administrator commitment during this period.
The city earned points in three areas: proactively operating the Disaster and Safety Response Task Force, identifying and managing vulnerable factors in advance, and systematizing snow removal operations by establishing the "Suwon City Snow Removal Manual." Minimizing citizen inconvenience during the response process was also recognized as an achievement.
The city plans to invest the 450 million won secured this time into disaster prevention and citizen safety projects.
A city official stated, "We did our best in heavy snow response to protect citizen safety, and we are pleased with the positive evaluation," adding "We will do our best to respond this winter as well to ensure not a single casualty occurs."
