[Gwanggyo Column] RESCENE's "Suwon Yahoo~" Has Begun
The popularity of girl group RESCENE is nothing short of a sensation. The title "5th generation trend-leading girl group" feels fitting.
While the Korean popular music market sees many singers and groups that shine briefly before disappearing, I hope this group will be loved by the public for a long time.
This is because they have the narrative of rising to the top from the ground up through tireless effort, and their music possesses outstanding charm as well.
RESCENE started in 2024 with a small-to-mid-sized entertainment agency.
Korea's popular music market is dominated by major entertainment agencies. Within this market environment, the growth achieved by RESCENE, which debuted through a smaller agency, is noteworthy.
At their starting point, there was no massive capital or broadcasting and media networks. The environment was nearly from scratch. Yet through relentless effort—even performing at elementary school sports days and community center events—they built their skills and demonstrated genuine passion for music that moved the public.
It is natural that RESCENE, with their positive public image, receives constant requests to become promotional ambassadors from local governments and companies.
Suwon appointed RESCENE as promotional ambassadors for Suwon Special Metropolitan City in June. This appointment was made in recognition of the members' bright and vibrant energy, approachable image, and excellent online communication skills.
The fact that member Liv is from Suwon likely also played a role.
Liv (real name Jin Gyeong-eun) is a native of Suwon, from the Guun-dong district, having attended Ilwol Elementary School, Songjung Elementary School, Yeongbok Girls' Middle School, Yulhyun Middle School, and Sookji High School. Web cartoonist-turned-broadcaster Kian84 is also an alumnus of Sookji High School.
RESCENE is engaged in various city promotion activities linked to major festivals, tourism resources, SNS, and more, including "2026-2027 Suwon Visit Year."
The city hopes to expand digital content that resonates with younger generations through RESCENE, and expects Suwon's diverse urban resources—including history, culture, tourism, and festivals—to become widely known both domestically and internationally.
A city official stated, "Especially since member Liv is from Suwon, we expect to convey Suwon's charm more authentically and contribute to promoting Suwon's city brand through the group's domestic and international fan base and online reach."
RESCENE also stated, "We will do our best to inform many people about Suwon's beautiful history and culture, and its diverse attractions." In particular, Liv said, "I am pleased and honored to serve as a promotional ambassador for my beloved hometown of Suwon."
Recently, the group produced a video featuring Suwon native member Liv recommending "authentic Suwon."
In connection with Suwon Visit Year, the initiative aims to promote Suwon's tourism resources in a youthful and relatable manner.
Structured in an entertainment format, the video naturally introduces Suwon's diverse attractions. Liv appears on camera, using a "1-minute quick quiz" format to introduce Suwon's food, must-visit locations, experiences, and signature festivals.
The city stated, "Departing from the existing standardized local government promotional video format, the video was produced to be easy and entertaining for citizens by incorporating on-site entertainment-style captions, ambient sound, and spontaneous reactions."
Going forward, the video will be released through various promotional channels including Suwon City's official YouTube, social media platforms, digital displays at Suwon Station and sports facilities, apartment digital signage (DID), and city newsletters.
RESCENE plans to continue activities that promote Suwon's city brand through major festivals and tourism resources, leading to actual visits to the city.
Now, RESCENE's "Suwon Yahoo~!" has begun.
