'Construction Ongoing Until December 2029' Hwasan Underground Underpass Traffic Measures in Full Force

First Vice Mayor Kim Hyun-soo of Suwon Special City visited the Hwasan Underground Underpass extension construction site on the 24th to inspect traffic flow resulting from the lane reduction, and urged public officials to "minimize citizen inconvenience by thoroughly managing the site."

Due to the Hwasan Underground Underpass extension construction, the underpass lanes have been reduced from 4 lanes to 2 lanes since the 20th, causing vehicle congestion during rush hours and on weekends. The Hwasan Underground Underpass extension construction is a project to improve traffic in the Suseong-ro area in line with the development of the Daeyupy District and is scheduled to proceed until December 2029.

To minimize citizen inconvenience caused by the extension construction, Suwon City has installed banners and signs at 150 locations near the construction site informing of the Hwasan Underground Underpass lane reduction and alternative routes. Construction information is also being provided through variable message signs (VMS) on roads throughout Suwon City, bus arrival alerts, and navigation systems to minimize citizen confusion.

Additionally, exemplary drivers and traffic controllers have been deployed at major intersections on Suseong-ro and alternative routes to guide drivers to alternate routes and manage traffic. Notices have been distributed to nearby apartments and large shopping centers, and briefing sessions have been held for residents in neighborhoods near the project site (Jeongja 2-dong, Jeongja 3-dong, Hwaseo 1-dong, and Hwaseo 2-dong).

The on-site inspection was attended by Ko Ho, Director of Urban Policy for Suwon City; Kim In-bae, Head of Jangan District; and Hwang Gyeol-don, Head of Paldal District.

First Vice Mayor Kim Hyun-soo stated, "Actively collect citizen opinions, and precisely identify issues causing inconvenience to citizens for immediate improvement measures," and added, "For areas requiring supplementation, consult with relevant departments and reflect them promptly."
