Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced on the 13th that it has received the 'top grade' in the '2027 Renewable Energy Supply (Convergence Support) Project' competition hosted by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment.

The city has been selected for the convergence support project competition for eight consecutive years and has received the top grade for four consecutive years, earning recognition for the excellence of its renewable energy policies. Although the specific scale has not been determined due to unconfirmed government budgets, the top grade selection is expected to be of great help in securing national funding, as the support rate is determined according to the evaluation grade.

The city participated in the competition by establishing a plan to install △solar power (792㎾) △geothermal (350㎾) △solar thermal (184㎡) at a total of 134 locations, including residential buildings and commercial buildings in Wonsam-myeon and Baegam-myeon of Cheoin-gu, as well as businesses in industrial complexes. The project is expected to involve a total budget of 2.2 billion won, including 870 million won in national funds.

The city plans to begin by holding a residents' briefing session in January next year, followed by signing a business agreement between resident representatives and participating company consortiums (including ⓒGoechang as the lead organization). Subsequently, the city plans to complete the installation of renewable energy facilities according to the schedule for each facility by next year.

Beyond promoting renewable energy equipment distribution, the city plans to continue providing additional support to multi-child and pregnant families, which was introduced in 2025 to link with population policies, in the coming year.

Additionally, the city is strengthening its renewable energy policy system by introducing a preemptive post-management system for equipment that has completed their mandatory five-year post-management period.

Mayor Lee Sang-il said, "The renewable energy convergence support project, which Yongin Special City is making great efforts toward, is expected to serve as an opportunity to promote equipment in energy-vulnerable areas and realize carbon-neutral values," and added, "As interest in the environment and the importance of renewable energy are increasing, we will actively participate in competitive projects that can secure national funds to continuously expand the renewable energy convergence support project."
