The expansion of National Route 45, a key infrastructure facility running through the 'Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor Cluster National Industrial Complex' in Idong and Namsa-eup, Yongin Special City, has become tangible.

Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced on the 12th that the National Route 45 expansion project was recently issued as a bid announcement by the Seoul Regional Land and Geospatial Administration in a turnkey (design and construction combined bidding) method.

The National Route 45 expansion project is a road construction project that expands a 12.53-kilometer section from the Daechon intersection in Dongnam, Cheoein-gu to Jangseo intersection in Yangseong-myeon, Anseong City, passing through the Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor Cluster National Industrial Complex, from the existing four lanes to a maximum of 6 to 8 lanes. It is a large-scale national project with total construction costs of 891.1 billion won.

Regarding the National Route 45 expansion project, opinions have been consistently raised that early promotion is necessary as traffic increases are expected due to large-scale development projects including the Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor Cluster National Industrial Complex and the Yongin Idong Public Housing Complex.

Since the announcement of the Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex development plan on March 15, 2023, the city has repeatedly requested the government to exempt the preliminary feasibility study for early expansion of National Route 45, the key road running through the national industrial complex.

Mayor Lee Sang-il emphasized at the 5th Pan-Government Promotion Task Force meeting on February 28, 2024, and the 6th Pan-Government Promotion Task Force meeting on May 22 that the preliminary feasibility study for National Route 45 should be exempted and partial road expansion must be completed before the first fab of the national industrial complex begins operations.

On June 26, 2024, the government announced the decision to exempt National Route 45 expansion project from the preliminary feasibility study and provide national funding support, and on August 22 of that year, the exemption from the preliminary feasibility study was confirmed.

Mayor Lee Sang-il stated, "For semiconductors, speed is life and time is subsidies, so we must accelerate infrastructure expansion such as roads," and added, "Considering that overseas competitors such as China's ChangXin Technologies (CXMT) and the United States' Micron are rapidly catching up with South Korea's semiconductor anchor companies, we must hurry to establish the Yongin national industrial complex and expand related infrastructure."
