Yongin Special City held the 'Yongin Semiconductor Business Network and Investment Briefing' at City Hall Convention Hall on the 11th.

The event was organized to strengthen inter-company cooperation networks and accelerate the development of the world's largest semiconductor mega-cluster being built in Yongin.

In his remarks, Mayor Lee Sang-il stated, "Although there have been ups and downs, Yongin's mega-scale semiconductor project is now gaining momentum, and upon completion, it will have the largest semiconductor ecosystem of any single city in the world." He added, "Memory semiconductor prices have risen significantly with tight supplies, so Yongin Special City is actively providing administrative support to increase initial production volumes as much as possible."

The mayor said, "The semiconductor industry cannot be completed by just two anchor companies—Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix—so the semiconductor ecosystem involving materials, parts, and equipment (SME) firms as well as design companies must become stronger." He continued, "I hope SME companies will form cooperative bodies to engage in smooth consultation and discussion with Yongin Special City and the two anchor companies, seeking a path of mutual development."

The event proceeded in the following order: introduction of the advanced semiconductor mass-production-linked mini-fab (Trinity Fab), explanations of major industrial complexes in Yongin including the Idong and Namsa-eup Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex, Wonsam-myeon Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex, and Wonsam-myeon Third Yongin Techno Valley General Industrial Complex along with their implementation status and occupancy schedules, followed by a Q&A session.

Trinity Fab is an advanced semiconductor test-bed fab where semiconductor SME companies can demonstrate new technologies and verify mass-production feasibility. Trinity Fab will be equipped with around 50 pieces of equipment based on 12-inch wafers.

Since it is built with an environment identical to major semiconductor manufacturers' mass-production fabs, SME companies without their own facilities can evaluate their own new technologies and prototypes in the same environment as mass-production fabs.

Trinity Fab is scheduled to be completed in May 2027 at the Wonsam-myeon Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex.

The Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex, being built on approximately 7.78 million square meters (approximately 2.35 million pyeong) in Idong and Namsa-eup, will begin site development in the latter half of this year and is being pursued with a target of breaking ground on the first fab in the latter half of 2027.

The Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex in Wonsam-myeon, with a scale of 4.16 million square meters (approximately 1.26 million pyeong), will house SK Hynix and its partner companies. As of the end of July this year, site development is 91% complete, with completion of site development scheduled for 2027 and trial operation of part of the first fab planned for the first half of 2027.

The Third Yongin Techno Valley General Industrial Complex, being built in the Jukneung-ri area of Wonsam-myeon, is an industrial complex of 260,000 square meters (approximately 79,000 pyeong) being developed due to the need for additional semiconductor-related industrial land supply. It is being pursued with a target of passing integrated review by the Gyeonggi Province Industrial Complex Plan in 2027. If pursued as planned, construction will begin and sales will start in the latter half of 2028, with completion expected in 2030.

The city in particular placed 'business grievances and suggestions forms' at each seat in the venue, collecting numerous opinions from business representatives. Suggestions will be answered individually after review by the relevant departments.
