Hwaseong Special City Hyohaeng District Health Center will implement a malaria eradication project from the 11th through October at the Hwaseong Mobilization Reserve Forces Training Facility to prevent infectious diseases in summer and combat malaria.

The project was designed to proactively prevent infectious diseases in consideration of the environmental conditions surrounding military facilities, which feature abundant mountainous terrain, vegetation, and drainage systems that facilitate the breeding of malaria-carrying mosquitoes. The Hyohaeng District Health Center plans to conduct disinfection and sterilization operations and larval control measures tailored to on-site conditions following prior consultation with the military facility.

Beyond disinfection activities, the center has provided larval control agents, tick repellents, and malaria rapid diagnostic test (RDT) kits to enhance the military facility's independent quarantine capabilities and infectious disease response capacity. Additionally, guidance on the proper use of disinfection products and prevention measures for vector-borne diseases was provided.

Going forward, the city plans to continuously share quarantine information with the military facility, maintain close cooperation to enable rapid response to infectious disease outbreaks, and strengthen prevention efforts against vector-borne diseases including malaria.

Kwak Maeheon, director of Hyohaeng District Health Center, said, “Prevention and continuous management are paramount in combating vector-borne diseases,” and added, “Based on close cooperation with the military facility, we will devote ourselves to prevention and management to safely protect both citizens and service members from vector-borne diseases including malaria.”
