Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced on the 9th that it held the ‘Semiconductor·AI Future Talent Summer Camp’ at Kyung Hee University International Campus for three days beginning on the 5th.

The event was conducted in collaboration between the city, Yongin Office of Education, and Kyung Hee University's RISE Project Team (Future Talent Center), targeting 30 high school students from the Yongin area.

This year, the curriculum was enhanced to design programs centered on hands-on experience and practical training, including semiconductor process experience and artificial intelligence (AI) training.

Previously, the city has been implementing semiconductor education for high school students in Yongin since 2024. Since last year, it has collaborated with Kyung Hee University to conduct theoretical education and corporate site visits for middle and high school students.

On the first day of the camp, participating students attended semiconductor and AI foundational lectures, physical AI practical training, and university career exploration lectures at Kyung Hee University International Campus Open Lab.

On the second and third days, participants were divided into two groups to visit the Display Components and Materials Regional Innovation Center (RIC Center) and Open Lab, where they engaged in semiconductor process experience and AI and maker-based practical training.

In particular, university students and graduate students participated as mentors throughout the educational program in a ‘career mentoring’ initiative. Participating students had the opportunity to receive career counseling from mentors and learn about actual major-related knowledge.

A city official stated, "Based on Yongin's characteristics as a semiconductor mega cluster is being developed, we prepared this camp to provide local youth with opportunities to explore career paths in advanced industries," and added, "Going forward, we plan to supplement and expand talent development education by reflecting diverse needs, and will implement educational support programs targeting not only high school students but also semiconductor company employees and general citizens."
