One QR Code Scan Ends 112 Emergency Report… Suwon District Offices Visit Senior Centers
When seniors scan the QR code attached below a building number plate with a smartphone, emergency reports to 112 and 119 can be completed with a single text message.
As few seniors were aware of this feature, district offices in Suwon have begun visiting senior centers directly, taking the hands of residents hesitant before digital devices.
According to Paldal-gu on the 7th, the district began customized QR code educational campaigns for seniors starting with Shinpung-dong Senior Center on the 4th of this month.
The QR code contains rapid emergency reporting services (text) for 112 and 119, a living safety map, and guidance on snow removal box locations. It also connects to a service that changes addresses in one go.
The education was tailored to seniors' level of understanding. The sequence involves directly scanning QR codes, learning what functions they contain, and receiving promotional materials. Rather than just listening to explanations, participants take out their smartphones and practice on-site.
An official from Paldal-gu said, "We will continue to visit senior centers and elderly welfare centers to promote road name addresses in a way that seniors can easily use QR code functions on building number plates in their daily lives."
Yeongdeungpo-gu took a step ahead in the sequence. It educated community leaders first before teaching residents. The Gwanggyo 2-dong Community Leaders Council held kiosk and AI usage training for community leaders at the 'Dream Imagination Room' in the Gwanggyo 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center on the 6th.
Community leaders learned basic usage methods such as ordering and payment by directly operating kiosks. They also learned how to use AI-based living services.
Heo Yong-mun, chairman of the Gwanggyo 2-dong Community Leaders Council, said, "Digital technology and AI are rapidly becoming part of daily life," and expressed hope that "community leaders will become reliable digital guides for residents, reducing the digital divide and enabling everyone to enjoy a convenient life."
