Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun: "Make Full Efforts to Establish Integrated Defense Posture"

On the 12th, Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun presided over the '2026 Ulchi Exercise-Linked Suwon City Integrated Defense Council' at the City Hall Disaster and Safety Situation Room and urged, "I hope that members of the Integrated Defense Council will make full efforts to establish an integrated defense posture so that the Ulchi Exercise proceeds successfully."

The meeting, attended by Mayor Lee Jae-jun, who serves as chairman of the Integrated Defense Council, Suwon City Council Speaker Kim Mi-kyung, and 19 members of the civilian-government-military-police Integrated Defense Council, proceeded with Mayor Lee's opening remarks, a report on preparations for the 2026 Ulchi Exercise, reports on military advance cooperation matters and agenda items, agenda deliberation, and discussions.

The mayor stated, "Please do your best to strengthen regional security so that we can respond swiftly and seamlessly to any crisis."

The Ulchi Exercise is a national-level comprehensive emergency preparedness drill designed to protect the lives and property of citizens in preparation for a state of war emergency.

This year's Ulchi Exercise (UFS-Ulchi Freedom Shield) will be conducted for three nights and four days from the 18th to the 21st. The goal is to 'establish a perfect national emergency preparedness posture through exercises in local provocations and national crisis management prior to war, as well as transition procedures to wartime and total national effort exercises following the outbreak of war.'

Participants include Suwon City, the Army's 2nd Battalion of the 2819th Unit, Jangan, Gwonseon, Paldal, and Yeongdeung Police Stations, Suwon and Suwon South Fire Departments, Suwon Detention Center, Suwon Probation Office, Korea Electric Power Corporation Gyeonggi Headquarters, Samcheon City Gas, and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. The exercise organization has been structured with 21 teams and 580 personnel.

On the 18th morning, Ulchi Level 2 contingency will be declared and operation of the wartime comprehensive situation room will commence. In the afternoon, the initial situation briefing will be held chaired by Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun. On the 19th, discussions on wartime budget formulation will take place, and on the 20th, civil defense drills with full national participation in preparation for air raids following war declaration, and actual drills in preparation for drone terrorism (Suwon Sports Complex) will be conducted. The situation will conclude on the afternoon of the 21st.
