Suwon Special City ranks first in Gyeonggi Province's heavy snow response evaluation…top among 31 cities and counties
[News S=Reporter Jung Jun-seong] Suwon Special City has been selected as the local government that handled snow removal best among 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province during last winter.
The city administration received high marks for minimizing inconvenience to residents by operating a countermeasure headquarters in advance before snow fell and newly creating a snow removal manual.
According to Suwon City on the 7th, the city was selected as the most outstanding local government in the heavy snow response sector in the 'Winter 2025~26 comprehensive evaluation of heavy snow and cold wave' hosted by Gyeonggi Province, securing 450 million won in financial incentives.
The evaluation period covered the winter natural disaster countermeasures period from November 15 last year through March 15 this year. The province selected outstanding local governments among 31 cities and counties based on their advance preparation achievements, emergency response system operations, and heads of government's interest level—evaluating overall disaster prevention and response.
The city earned points in three areas: proactively operating the disaster and safety countermeasure headquarters, identifying and managing vulnerable factors in advance, and systematizing snow removal work by creating the 'Suwon City Snow Removal Manual.' The city also received recognition for minimizing citizen inconvenience during the response process.
The city plans to invest the 450 million won secured this time in disaster prevention and citizen safety projects.
A city official stated, "We did our best in responding to heavy snow to protect citizen safety, and we received a favorable evaluation," adding, "We will do our utmost to respond this winter as well so that not a single casualty occurs."
