Gyeonggi Province Office of Education Wins 73 Medals at 61st National Skills Competition

The Gyeonggi Province Office of Education (Superintendent Ahn Min-seok) demonstrated top-class technical capabilities at the '61st National Skills Competition' held in Incheon Metropolitan City from the 22nd to the 28th, earning 5 gold medals, 4 silver medals, 19 bronze medals, 7 commendations, and 38 encouragement awards, securing top-tier national standings.

This competition saw 1,677 competitors from 17 cities and provinces nationwide participate in 51 occupational categories, with 100 Gyeonggi Province representative student athletes showcasing excellence across diverse fields including electrical engineering, machinery, construction and woodworking, and design. In particular, the competition added significant meaning to the discovery of young technical talent and the cultivation of skilled workers to lead future industries.

Gold medal-producing institutions include Ansan Industrial High School (web design and development, animation categories) and Gyeonggi Aviation High School (furniture category). Ansan Industrial High School (Principal Kim Gyeong-soo) received a silver institutional award for ranking second nationally this year, following three consecutive bronze institutional awards.

Kim Hye-ri, director of the Gyeonggi Province Office of Education's Career and Vocational Education Division, stated, "Students from specialized high schools and Meister high schools in the province, along with young skilled workers, proved their capabilities on the national stage." She added, "Going forward, we will continue to strengthen support and improve training environments so that achievements can lead to participation in international competitions such as the WorldSkills Competition."

Meanwhile, the National Skills Competition is the country's largest-scale festival for skilled workers, with top award winners gaining opportunities for national team selection and international competition participation. Building on this achievement, Gyeonggi Province Office of Education plans to strengthen follow-up training and support systems to achieve excellent results at next year's national competition to be held in North Chungcheong Province.
