Chair Yu Ui-dong of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee: "Reconstruction and Redevelopment Housing Supply Important...Yongsan Value Must Be Considered"
Yu Ui-dong, chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Land, Infrastructure and Transport (People Power Party, Pyeongtaek-si District B), held a breakfast meeting with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon at Seoul City Hall on the 19th and discussed overall real estate issues including housing supply.
At the meeting, they examined the effectiveness and limitations of the housing supply measures announced by the government and held broad discussions on practical alternatives that could lead to actual supply.
In particular, they reached consensus that to increase housing supply in Seoul and the metropolitan area, rather than relying solely on government-led methods, private redevelopment projects such as reconstruction and redevelopment should be activated to sufficiently draw out the private sector's supply capacity.
Additionally, they exchanged views on the issue of utilizing Yongsan Park, which the government is reviewing as an additional supply measure. They agreed that the sustainable value of the area should be prioritized rather than focusing solely on the necessity of housing supply.
Chairman Yu Ui-dong stated, "Housing supply measures should not stop at announcing numbers; they must lead to actual construction and occupancy," and added, "Rather than the government unilaterally determining supply methods, the voices of local residents and local governments must be sufficiently reflected."
He further noted, "As chairman of the Committee on Land, Infrastructure and Transport, I will clearly point out the problems with government measures and actively discuss necessary institutional improvements so that practical housing supply measures that citizens can feel are established."
