Suwon Special City (Mayor Lee Jae-joon) will sequentially distribute compensation of 13.395 billion won to 48,672 residents affected by military noise near Suwon Air Base (K-13).

Following the Military Noise Compensation Act, compensation applications were received in January and February, and after calculation and review, initial decision notices were sent in May. After operating an objection period from June 1 to July 30, 48,672 recipients were designated as beneficiaries.

To 48,600 residents who agreed with the initial decision, first-phase compensation will be distributed by August 31. For 72 objectors, compensation will be distributed in a second phase by October 30 after going through an agreement procedure regarding the results of their objections.

Compensation is to be paid in principle to the account under the name of the applicant or, in case of the applicant's death, the representative heir. In cases of unavoidable circumstances under applicable laws, payment may be made in cash.

Residents who were unable to apply for compensation this year may retroactively apply for past unapplied amounts, including 2025 compensation, during the application period from January to February 2027. Residents in noise countermeasure zones must apply for compensation every year.

A Suwon City official stated, "We hope the compensation provides even some comfort to residents who have endured military noise damage for a long time," and added, "We will do our best to alleviate residents' grievances from military noise and ensure fair compensation is provided."
