Mayor Lee Jae-jun of Suwon: "Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival with 63-Year History Has Sufficient Potential for Global Festival Development"

Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun emphasized that "the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, with its 63-year history, has sufficient potential to develop into a global festival."

Presiding over the '2026 Suwon Hwaseong Three Major Festivals Promotion Plan Briefing Session' held at the City Hall conference room on the 15th, Mayor Lee Jae-jun said, "Festivals that continue for over 60 years are not common," and added, "We will industrialize the excellent tourism content that Suwon has, including the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival and the reenactment of King Jeongjo's Royal Procession, and develop them into global festivals."

At the briefing session, interdepartmental cooperation systems were reviewed for effective operation of Suwon Hwaseong's three major festivals: the 63rd Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, the Royal Procession of King Jeongjo, and Suwon Hwaseong Media Art. Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun, First Vice Mayor Kim Hyun-soo, Second Vice Mayor Lee Dong-gi, heads of related departments, and heads of collaborative organizations attended.

Mayor Lee Jae-jun requested, "Please conduct preliminary safety inspections repeatedly and meticulously so that visitors can safely enjoy the three major festivals."

The 63rd Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival will be held from October 4 to 11 at Haenggung Square, Hwaseong Haenggung, Banghwasuryujeong, Yongyeon, and Yeonmudae throughout the Suwon Hwaseong area. This year's Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, themed "Saebbit Hongmin," will operate programs including the Suwon fantasy "Yajo," water performance "Seonyumong," "Haenggung Yahwa," citizens' great construction "Hwahong," and Suwon Gama Race.

The joint reenactment of King Jeongjo's Royal Procession will take place on October 4. It departs from Nosong-jidae, passes through Suwon General Sports Complex and Jangan Gate, and concludes at Haenggung Square. It will proceed as a Suwon Hwaseong Parade with citizen participation and a reenactment procession of the Eulmyo Royal Journey.

Suwon Hwaseong Media Art is a nighttime content festival that reinterprets Suwon's historical spaces through light and technology. Under the theme "Saebbit Dongnak (同樂): Suwon Hwaseong (華城), Blooming with Light, Season 1 'Wayo Gabin (我有嘉賓)'," it will be held from September 19 to October 6 around Hwaseo Gate, Jangan Gate, and Jangan Park.
