Suwon Special City Recruits Participants for First 'Suwon Eco Job Day'

Suwon Special City (Mayor Lee Jae-jun) is recruiting 180 middle and high school students, university students and youth to participate in the 'Suwon Eco Job Day (SUWON ECO JOB DAY),' an event to explore career paths in the environmental field, by September 4.

The Suwon Eco Job Day, being held for the first time this year, is a career-linked environmental mentoring event where field practitioners working in the environmental sector meet with youth and young adults to discuss job-related topics. It is jointly hosted by Suwon City and Gyeonggi Province Suwon Office of Education.

The event will be held three times on September 18-19 in the medium conference room of Suwon City Hall. Sessions are scheduled for: September 18 at 2 p.m. for 60 university students and youth; September 19 at 9:30 a.m. for 60 middle and high school students; and September 19 at 2:30 p.m. for 60 university students and youth. Youth aged 19-34 are eligible to participate.

Mentors include environmental professionals from 6 fields: Suwon City environmental civil servants, environmental organization activists, Gyeonggi Province Office of Education environmental affairs scholarship officers, Samsung Electronics practitioners, environmental science professors, and Korea Meteorological Administration civil servants.

Participants will sit at roundtables with mentors to discuss the role of the environmental sector, actual job duties, and career paths. Each roundtable will have approximately one mentor and 10 participants, and participants will move between tables to experience various professions.

At the September 19 afternoon session for youth, a 'Sweet Climate Busking' performance supported by the Korea Meteorological Administration's Metropolitan Area Office will also be held.

Those wishing to participate can apply by scanning the QR code for their respective group on the promotional materials using a smartphone. Middle and high school students must be from the Suwon area, while university students and youth must be currently enrolled students at universities in Suwon City or residents of Suwon City.

A Suwon City official stated, "Youth and young adults interested in the environment will be able to meet field practitioners to understand environmental careers and explore their career paths. We hope many youth and young adults will participate and discover diverse career opportunities in the environmental field."
