Cheong Wa Dae: Yong Hye-in Should Have Opportunity to Explain at Confirmation Hearing

Cheong Wa Dae stated on the 1st that Minister-designate Yong Hye-in of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family should be given an opportunity to explain at the confirmation hearing regarding the controversy over maintaining her proportional representative seat.

It has been customary for proportional representative lawmakers to resign from their seats when nominated as ministerial candidates.

However, second-term proportional representative Yong has stated her position to maintain her legislative seat while serving as minister.

This has drawn criticism from not only the opposition but also from within the progressive and ruling camp, calling for her to step down from her legislative seat.
