Seven Road Projects in Gyeonggi Province Pass Government Preliminary Feasibility Review, Including Yongin Choin Wonsam-Mapyeong
Seven road network projects being pursued by Gyeonggi Province have passed a batch preliminary feasibility review (hereinafter "feasibility review") for the establishment of the 6th National and Local Road Construction Plan (2026-2030). The projects, totaling 48.9 kilometers and valued at 1.4689 trillion won, have cleared the first hurdle for road network construction, signaling positive news for alleviating traffic congestion in the province.
According to Gyeonggi Province on the 27th, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's 7th Financial Investment Evaluation Committee, held on the 26th, announced that 7 out of 26 projects submitted by the province passed the batch preliminary feasibility review.
The 7 projects are: ▲Yongin Choin Wonsam-Mapyeong (Local Route 57) ▲Namyangju Wabu-Hwado 2 (Local Route 86) ▲Pyeongtak Oseong-Godeok (National Route 38) ▲Asan Dunpo-Pyeongtak Paengseong Namsan (National Route 45) ▲Gimpo Gochon Punggok-Punggok (National Route 48) ▲Anseong Gongdo Bypass (National Alternative Route 38) ▲Anseong Daedeok-Yongin Namsa (Local Route 23).
Passing the batch preliminary feasibility review constitutes an official determination that the projects have merit to be pursued as national fiscal projects. The province explained that the foundation has been established to proceed with subsequent procedures including basic planning, design, budget formulation and securing, and various permits and approvals.
Compared to the 5th round of the 6th National and Local Road batch feasibility review in which 4 out of 24 projects were selected, this round saw 3 additional projects selected, with total project costs increasing from 462.6 billion won to 1.4689 trillion won—an increase of approximately 1 trillion won. The project types have also been expanded to include national alternative bypass routes in addition to existing national and local routes.
Examining the 7 projects that passed the feasibility review, it is noteworthy that Yongin Choin Wonsam-Mapyeong, Pyeongtak Oseong-Godeok, and Anseong Daedeok-Yongin Namsa are projects that strengthen regional transportation infrastructure linked to the semiconductor industry being developed primarily in Yongin, Anseong, and Pyeongtak.
Namyangju Wabu-Hwado 2 is expected to significantly improve the regional traffic environment by addressing inconvenience and safety concerns faced by residents due to increased traffic volume.
Gimpo Gochon Punggok-Punggok will improve intersections in line with large-scale development projects in surrounding areas including Pungmu Station Special District and Geomdan New City, while Asan Dunpo-Pyeongtak Paengseong Namsan and Anseong National Route 38, which have suffered from severe traffic congestion, will disperse traffic through road expansion and the opening of bypass routes.
Gyeonggi Province plans to strengthen coordination with related agencies including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to ensure that the projects passing the feasibility review are reflected in the final "6th National and Local Road Construction Plan" in the latter half of this year, and to ensure that subsequent procedures including design and compensation are conducted promptly.
Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae stated, "With this feasibility review approval, key road networks supporting the competitiveness of the semiconductor industrial belt have been secured, so we will do our best to ensure final reflection in the national plan and implementation of subsequent procedures," and added, "We will actively identify and implement road network expansion projects that support national advanced industries and regional development and can be felt by residents, and will continuously respond to ensure they are reflected in national plans."
