Park Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the People Power Party, marking his first year as chairman, unveiled a party reform initiative dubbed 'People Power Party 2.0,' aimed at strengthening party member sovereignty and winning the 2028 general election.

Chairman Jang held a press conference at the National Assembly on the 26th marking one year since his inauguration, presenting the party's ultimate reform goals as victory in the 2028 general election and reclaiming power.

He stated, "We must achieve a majority victory in the 2028 general election," adding, "We must create a People Power Party-led majority government where the People Power Party can take responsibility and properly manage state affairs."

Characterizing the past year as a time of party reconstruction and conservative unity, Chairman Jang set the goal for his remaining one-year term on expanding public support.

Chairman Jang emphasized, "If the past year was a time to rebuild our collapsed party and unite our scattered conservative forces, now is the time to properly establish a foothold for victory. Based on our united party spirit, we will advance into the 'sea of public opinion.'"

To this end, the party will pursue the 'People Power Party 2.0, 4 Major Innovation Project,' centered on party member sovereignty, a people's livelihood-focused party, a communication-focused party, and a values-oriented party.

First, party member sovereignty will be expanded. The plan includes strengthening decision-making structures centered on party members by allowing members to directly participate in the selection of city and provincial party chair positions and local party chapter heads. This is interpreted as a reaffirmation of the party's commitment to implementing a responsible party chapter head voting system by party members, which some incumbent lawmakers within the party have been opposing.

The party's identity and personnel evaluation system will also be reformed. The plan includes clarifying the values the party pursues as a conservative party and establishing new evaluation systems for National Assembly members and heads of metropolitan and local government entities.

Communication both within and outside the party will be expanded. Enlarged party official meetings will be held regularly, and programs enabling direct public participation will be increased. The party also plans to establish a people's livelihood policy task force reporting directly to the party leader to identify livelihood issues and strengthen policy response capabilities.

The opposition stance will continue. In particular, the party will strongly push to address the trial issue of President Lee Jae-myung, block attempts at constitutional amendment for consecutive terms, and work forcefully to repeal the Yellow Envelope Law. Chairman Jang stated, "The reason for the opposition party's existence is to fight against the tyranny of power and protect people's sovereignty," adding, "We will establish a vibrant system that allows the party to fight properly."

Changes to party organization and personnel composition were also signaled. He said, "With my remaining one year in office, I will now make a fresh start," adding, "I will carry out internal reforms and lead complete change."

He further stated, "I will fill the party with talent capable of proper struggle and vigorously pursue 'reform from within' to make the People Power Party a strong political party. I will open my heart further and gather both party spirit and public sentiment. I will focus more on responsibility than authority."
