Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun: "Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival with 63-Year History Possesses Strength of Global Festival"

Suwon Special Mayor Lee Jae-jun emphasized that "the Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival, which has a 63-year history, possesses sufficient strength to develop into a global festival."

Presiding over the '2026 Suwon Hwaseong Three Major Festivals Promotion Plan Briefing' held in the city government's conference room on the 15th, Mayor Lee Jae-jun said, "It is uncommon for a festival to continue steadily for over 60 years," and "We will industrialize the excellent tourism content that Suwon possesses, such as the Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival and the recreation of King Jeongjo's royal procession, and develop it into a global festival."

At the briefing, inter-departmental collaboration systems were reviewed for effectively operating the three major Suwon Hwaseong festivals: the 63rd Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival, the King Jeongjo Royal Procession, and Suwon Hwaseong Media Art. Mayor Lee Jae-jun, First Vice Mayor Kim Hyun-soo, Second Vice Mayor Lee Dong-ki, relevant department heads, and heads of collaborative organizations attended.

Mayor Lee said, "I hope that detailed and repeated safety inspections are conducted in advance so that visitors can safely enjoy the three major festivals."

The 63rd Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival will be held from October 4th to 11th at Haenggung Plaza, Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, and throughout Suwon Hwaseong including Banghwa Suryujeong, Yongyeon, and Yeonmudae. This year's Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival, with the theme 'Saebbit Hongmin,' will operate programs including the Suwon fantasy 'Night Birds,' the water performance 'Seonyu Dream,' 'Haenggung Night Stories,' the citizens' great construction 'Hwahong,' and the Suwon Carriage Race.

The joint recreation of King Jeongjo's royal procession will take place on October 4th. It departs from Nosong Jidae, passes through Suwon General Sports Stadium and Jangan Gate, and concludes at Haenggung Plaza. It proceeds with the Suwon Hwaseong Parade with citizen participation and a recreation procession of the Eulmyo royal tour.

Suwon Hwaseong Media Art is a nighttime content festival that reinterprets Suwon's historical spaces through light and technology. Under Season 1 theme 'New Light Shared Joy (同樂): Suwon Hwaseong (華城), Blooming with Light - I Have Honored Guests (我有嘉賓),' it will be held from September 19th to October 6th in the Hwaseo Gate, Jangan Gate, and Jangan Park areas.
