Suwon Hwaseong Illuminated by Media Art Starting September 19
'2026 Suwon Hwaseong Media Art,' which brings Suwon Hwaseong to life with beautiful light, runs daily from September 19 to October 6 each evening.
The 2026 Suwon Hwaseong Media Art takes place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily around Hwaseomun Gate, Jangan Gate, and Jangan Park under the theme 'New Light Shared Joy: Suwon Hwaseong Blooms in Light Season 1 - Ayoujiabang.' The opening ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on September 19. 'Ayoujiabang' means 'I have honored guests.'
Now in its sixth year, the Suwon Hwaseong Media Art has expanded performances and increased experiential and stay-type content. The city has also expanded seating areas and partnered with global intellectual property (IP) brands to operate pop-up shops as part of its strategy to attract international tourists.
At Hwaseomun Gate, the media art work 'Light of Connections' will be screened three times daily (7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m., and 9:30 p.m.). A variety of performances featuring light and sound, dance, firebird, and butterfly drones connected with the media art will also take place.
At Jangan Gate, works featuring stories related to Suwon Hwaseong will be presented under the theme 'The King's Path - Together.' Grand media art combining lighting, sound, and special effects will be created.
Jangan Park will be organized as a media park. Interactive sound-based media art will be created utilizing the Suwon Hwaseong fortress walls, and a giant flower zone and botanical healing zone will operate in the forest space. Experiential programs and photo zones for visitors to enjoy and participate in will be created, along with 'Haengung Market Suwon Store,' a specialized market linked with local merchants and the Suwonmun Market.
A Suwon City official stated, "Starting with Suwon Hwaseong Media Art on the 19th, three major autumn festivals will continue for 23 days, including the 63rd Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival (October 4-11) and King Jeongjo's Royal Procession (October 4)," and added, "We hope many people visit Suwon's autumn festivals and create wonderful memories."
