Asahikawa City Delegation from Japan Visits Suwon to Share Best Urban Design Policies

Suwon Special Status City (Mayor Lee Jae-jun) shared Suwon's best urban design policies with a study group from Asahikawa City in Japan, a sister city, led by the Asahikawa Creative City Promotion Council.

The study session held on the 11th at Suwon Convention Center was attended by 25 officials from the Asahikawa Creative City Promotion Council and civil servants from Suwon City.

Under the theme "Opening the City, Welcoming People," Suwon City introduced best practices that connect Suwon's identity formed around the UNESCO World Heritage Suwon Hwaseong Fortress with urban design policies. The session was followed by a question-and-answer period and exchange of views with participants.

The delegation visited major facilities including Samsung Innovation Museum, Galleria Gwanggyo, Gwanggyo Lake Park, and Starfield Suwon to examine Suwon's architecture, design, and urban revitalization cases.

The Asahikawa Creative City Promotion Council is a public-private collaborative organization that promotes urban development and regional revitalization through design. It supports design industry development and sustainable creative city creation by connecting regional businesses, designers, educational institutions, and citizens.

An official from Suwon City stated, "We shared urban design policies that connect the value of urban assets including Suwon Hwaseong Fortress with urban space and citizen experience," and added, "We hope this study session will serve as an opportunity to exchange policies and experiences with each other and continue exchanges in diverse fields including culture and urban policy."
