Yongin Special City to Recruit Demonstration Ideas for Drone Special Liberated Zone Designation
Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced on the 13th that it is currently conducting drone demonstration projects and demand surveys of participating companies that reflect regional characteristics to participate in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Fourth Drone Special Liberated Zone Designation' public call.
The demand survey will be used as baseline data to discover fields in Yongin where drone applications are necessary or have high potential for application, and to identify methods of utilizing drones based on 'Drone Special Liberated Zone regulatory exemptions.'
The 'Drone Special Liberated Zone' is a system that exempts and simplifies drone flight-related regulations such as △flight approval △special flight approval △and safety certification to promote technology demonstration and commercialization using drones.
Once designated as a special zone, participating business operators included in the development plan will conduct demonstrations according to established operation plans and safety management systems. However, it is not a space where the general public and drone enthusiasts can freely fly drones.
The city is exploring ways to use drones to resolve local issues such as △disaster and safety △environmental management △and facility inspections, and anticipates that it will be able to discover creative ideas applicable to public services.
The demand survey will run through September 16. The survey targets domestic drone companies, universities, and research institutions related to fields such as △aircraft △services △control systems △and artificial intelligence analysis. The city plans to give priority review to projects that can contribute to resolving local issues while reflecting geographical, industrial, and environmental characteristics.
Ideas proposed by each organization will undergo review to be selected as demonstration project candidates and will be submitted to the October 'Fourth Drone Special Liberated Zone Designation' public call.
A city official said, "We expect that the Drone Special Liberated Zone will provide a foundation for companies to demonstrate various drone technologies and services," and added, "We look forward to the keen interest and participation of relevant companies and institutions in the demand survey to discover demonstration projects that can be utilized in solving Yongin's local issues and public services."
