The Gyeonggi Economic Zone Authority (hereinafter Gyeonggi Economic Authority) announced on the 13th that it approved with conditions the construction project for Chong Kun Dang Co., Ltd. Knowledge Industry Center at the 7th Integrated Architecture and Transportation Review Committee held on the 10th.

The project is aimed at creating a knowledge industry center where urban factories and high-tech companies can be located. As the project proceeded through integrated review in two fields—architecture and transportation—it will substantially reduce administrative procedures required for individual reviews, and is expected to accelerate the project.

The project site is located in Baegot-dong, Siheung City, Plot 302 and surrounding area, with a site area of 79,790 square meters and a total building floor area of 75,000 square meters. The knowledge industry center will accommodate bio and pharmaceutical-related industries including basic pharmaceutical substance manufacturing, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, and medical and pharmaceutical research and development. The total investment scale amounts to 2.2 trillion won.

In particular, the building plans to achieve 20% energy self-sufficiency by applying various zero-energy technologies. The company plans to establish a zero-energy system including greenhouse gas carbon emission reduction equipment, renewable energy production technology, and waste and wastewater resource recycling systems to reduce carbon emissions and cut energy costs.

Additionally, by complying with architectural design guidelines and universal design guidelines, the company plans to reduce potential obstacles by meeting legal standards for public safety, urban aesthetics, user convenience, and environmental protection from the design phase.

To facilitate smooth project implementation, the Gyeonggi Economic Authority conducted practical consultations with Chong Kun Dang Co., Ltd. over more than a year on knowledge industry center establishment requirements, eligible business types, and construction and infrastructure-related matters.

Based on these preliminary consultations, Chong Kun Dang Co., Ltd. prepared a specific business plan and applied for approval for new knowledge industry center establishment, and the Gyeonggi Economic Authority reviewed the legal requirements of the submitted business plan and decided on approval last month.

The knowledge industry center is planned to undergo administrative procedures including building permits, with a target of full operation in the second half of 2028.
