Hwaseong Special City Fencing Team: 3 National Representatives Head to Nagoya Asian Games
Hwaseong Special City (Mayor Jung Myung-geun) announced on the 11th that Lee Gwang-hyun, Lim Chul-woo, and Yun Jeong-hyun, athletes from the city hall's corporate sports team fencing division, have been selected as national representatives for the Republic of Korea and will compete in the '2026 Aichi Nagoya Asian Games.'
Lee Gwang-hyun, Lim Chul-woo, and Yun Jeong-hyun have been recognized for their skills through consistent performances at major domestic and international competitions and were selected as national representatives. In particular, with three athletes from Hwaseong Special City Hall's Fencing Team simultaneously wearing the Taegeuk mark, expectations are high for their performances at the upcoming Asian Games.
Notably, the men's foil team event is evaluated as a sport in which the Republic of Korea possesses Asia's strongest competitive strength. The three athletes from Hwaseong Special City Hall are also expected to serve as core members of the national team based on their extensive competition experience and outstanding skills.
Hwaseong Special City Hall's Fencing Team has established itself as a top-tier corporate team in Korea through continuous athlete development and systematic training, and has contributed to the advancement of fencing in the Republic of Korea by producing numerous national representatives.
Mayor Jung Myung-geun of Hwaseong Special City stated, "I find it meaningful that three athletes from Hwaseong Special City Hall will stand on the Asian Games stage wearing the Taegeuk mark," and added, "I hope they will showcase the skills they have honed and bring honor to the Republic of Korea and Hwaseong Special City. I also hope that citizens will send strong cheers to support the athletes."
Meanwhile, the 2026 Aichi Nagoya Asian Games will be held from September 19 to October 4 in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya City, Japan. Fencing competitions are scheduled to take place from September 20 to 27, and the Republic of Korea fencing national team will challenge for medals in various events, including men's foil individual and team competitions.
