Gifting Books to Teens with Reading Points...10 Local Bookstores Participate

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 10th that it is linking the reading culture platform 'One Thousand Books Reading Points' with local bookstores' 'Let's Buy Books for Teens' campaign, allowing residents to donate reading points they have accumulated to teenagers in need of books.

'One Thousand Books (路) Reading Points' is a flagship reading culture project of Gyeonggi Province where residents can earn points through reading books, borrowing and purchasing books, and writing reading journals. The accumulated points can be converted into local currency that can be used at local bookstores.

Gyeonggi Province explained that due to high participation from residents, the planned point accumulation for this year closed early in July, and it decided to link the campaign to enable residents to use the points they have accumulated until December 20 in a meaningful way.

'Let's Buy Books for Teens' is a campaign where when residents donate book purchase funds to local bookstores, teenagers in need of books can directly select and receive the books they want. The province has coordinated with local bookstores to enable donations as well as book purchases using reading points.

Currently, 10 bookstores are participating in the campaign: 'Seohang Gugan' in Gwangju, 'Suam Sanbook' in Ansan, 'Bookshop Sae and Well' in Uiwang, 'Yongin Mungo' in Yongin, 'Chungga Bookstore' in Guri, 'Edumungo' in Suwon, 'Uncheon Bookstore' in Pocheon, 'Flâneuse' in Goyang, 'Corner Bookshop' in Hwaseong, and 'Doi Bookshop' in Namyangju. Residents wishing to donate can visit participating bookstores and prepay the donation amount using a local currency card with accumulated reading points.

Yoon Myung-hee, Director of Gyeonggi Provincial Library, said, "We have prepared this linkage plan so that the joy of reading books can lead to the expansion of reading opportunities for teenagers and revitalization of local bookstores as a result of mutual prosperity," and added, "I hope that warm reading point donations from our residents will become a precious asset that brightens the future of our children."
