Hwaseong Special City has launched emergency on-site inspections and safety measures in response to a partial collapse of a reinforced soil retaining wall approximately 10 meters in height in Donghwa-ri, Bongdam-eup, Hyohang-gu.

According to the city, an emergency report was received through 119 at approximately 8 p.m. on the 3rd. Upon confirmation, a portion of the retaining wall on private property had collapsed, but no casualties were reported.

Hwaseong Special City deployed relevant departments to the scene immediately after the accident and implemented emergency safety measures including access restrictions, safety tape installation, hazardous zone blockades, and traffic management in surrounding areas. Considering the possibility of ground weakening due to recent heavy rainfall, the city is conducting concurrent inspections of the collapsed section and other retaining walls while focusing on preventing secondary damage.

Yun Sung-jin, First Vice Mayor of Hwaseong Special City, visited the scene in person to inspect the damage situation and safety conditions. He reviewed the scope of collapse, impact on adjacent facilities, inconvenience to residents, and emergency response status with relevant officials. Vice Mayor Yun instructed response personnel to prioritize citizen safety, promptly eliminate risk factors, and maintain thorough inspections and on-site control of potentially at-risk sections.

The city plans to first implement safety measures, conduct joint inspections with structural engineers and relevant departments to thoroughly analyze the collapse cause, and comprehensively review the need for repairs, reinforcement, or reconstruction.

Yun Sung-jin, First Vice Mayor of Hwaseong Special City, stated, “Currently, the most important thing is to prevent additional damage and quickly secure on-site safety,” adding, “We will make every effort to manage the site until all risk factors are completely resolved.”
