Gyeonggi Province, Provincial Assembly, and Education Office Form 'Three-Way Policy Coalition'
Gyeonggi Province, together with the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly and Gyeonggi Office of Education, will hold 31 '2026 Gyeonggi Province and Gyeonggi Education Policy Discussion Forums' from September through December on provincial administration and education issues, reflecting the opinions of citizens and experts in policy.
On September 1st, Gyeonggi Province held the 'Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Gyeonggi Province and Gyeonggi Education Policy Discussion Forum' at the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly's main conference hall, formally launching the second half's policy discussion forums. A total of 40 policy forums are scheduled for this year, with 9 held in the first half and 31 scheduled for the second half.
The opening ceremony was attended by Ju Hyung-chul, Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province for Economy; Nam Jong-seop, Speaker of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly; Ahn Kwang-yul, Floor Leader of the Democratic Party; Bang Sung-hwan, Floor Leader of the People Power Party; and Yoon So-young, Acting First Vice Superintendent of Gyeonggi Office of Education. The opening ceremony featured remarks and congratulatory speeches.
The policy discussion forums are a joint cooperative project pursued by Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly since 2018 to discover policy agendas that meet citizens' needs and expand citizens' and local governments' participation in provincial administration. Citizens, provincial assembly members, relevant field experts, provincial and municipal government officials, and field-related personnel participate to discuss policy alternatives on regional and sector-specific issues.
The first Gyeonggi Province policy discussion forum of the second half will be held on September 15th in the small performance hall of the Munsan Happiness Center in Paju City. Kim Sun-hyun, a member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, will serve as moderator to discuss citizen damage caused by military obstacles in northern Gyeonggi and solutions under the theme of 'Military Obstacles in Northern Gyeonggi: Citizen Impact and Resolution Methods.' The themes, schedules, and venues for the remaining forums will be announced later.
Any Gyeonggi Province citizen may participate in the policy discussion forums, and viewers can watch the discussions both in-person and through live-streaming on the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly's official YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/@ggassembly).
Ju Hyung-chul, Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province for Economy, said, "Good policy becomes stronger when diverse opinions are freely discussed and wisdom is pooled together," and "I hope this forum will be a productive venue for public discourse that enriches citizens' lives and allows us to draw Gyeonggi Province's future together, and I will do my best to ensure that proposed opinions translate into substantive policies."
Nam Jong-seop, Speaker of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, said, "The policy discussion forum is an opportunity to publicize the challenges of Gyeonggi's provincial administration and education, and to find realistic solutions," and "When the challenges discussed at the forum lead to policies benefiting citizens, and when citizens feel the resulting changes in their lives, the significance of the policy discussion forum will be complete. I hope we can create the changes necessary for citizens, one by one."
Yoon So-young, Acting First Vice Superintendent of Gyeonggi Office of Education, said, "The Gyeonggi Office of Education is vigorously implementing the 'Great Transformation of Gyeonggi Education' so that students look forward to attending school, teachers are respected, and parents can have peace of mind," and "We will listen deeply to the voices from the education field and various policy proposals brought together at the policy discussion forum and translate them into changes in Gyeonggi education."
