The Hwaseong Fire Department announced on the 29th that it rescued a woman in her 20s who was stranded at sea off Gungpyeong Port near Gungpyeong-ri, Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong City due to rising tide.

The woman was wading in the water near Gungpyeong Port when the rising tide deepened the water depth, leaving her unable to return to shore and stranded at sea. A passerby in the vicinity heard her screams and reported it to emergency services (119).

Since it was nighttime, the responding personnel could not confirm the location visually, so they narrowed down the position by following the screams. With the cooperation of the civilian vessel Sodamho, they discovered the person to be rescued approximately 500 meters off the beach. The personnel put on safety equipment, entered the water to rescue her, and transported her to Gungpyeong Port aboard the Sodamho.

The rescued person showed symptoms of hypothermia but had no serious injuries. As she did not wish to be taken to a hospital, she was turned over to her guardian and sent home.

Jung Gwi-yong, head of the Hwaseong Fire Department, said, "Since securing visibility at sea is difficult at night, accident risks are high. Please avoid swimming at night and check tide schedules and weather conditions."
