Yongin Special City Requests 1 Million Ton Increase in Residential Water for Semiconductor Industrial Complex

Yongin Special City announced on the 27th that it has requested the government to increase residential water supply by 1 million tons (100,000㎥) for the semiconductor industrial complex.

The city made this request on the same day at the "Integrated Water Supply Project Inspection Meeting for Yongin Semiconductor Industrial Complex," held at the Vision Hall of Yongin City Hall and presided over by Kim Han-seung, First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment. The meeting was attended by Lee Seung-hwan, Director of the Han River Basin Environmental Office, officials from Gyeonggi Province and Korea Water Resources Corporation, and Hwang Jun-gi, Second Vice Mayor of Yongin City. They discussed the current status of project implementation and water supply measures aligned with semiconductor fab operation schedules.

The city requested an additional 1 million tons (100,000㎥) of residential water supply, citing difficulties in promptly reflecting water volume in the Master Plan for Water Management as the city rapidly grows due to the advancement of mega-scale semiconductor projects.

The city also requested expedited approval of a plan to expand the Pyeongchang Water Distribution Reservoir capacity from the current 6,600㎥ to 28,600㎥. The city had previously submitted an expansion request in June due to a surge in development following the full-scale construction of the SK Hynix fab.

A city official stated, "We will cooperate well with the central government and provide full support for semiconductor projects without disruption."
