Feature Suwon Office of Education Provides Enriching Summer Vacation with Community-Wide Care and Learning Programs

The Suwon Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seon-gyeong) operated the "2026 Summer Vacation Community-Wide Care and Learning Program" to reduce gaps in student supervision during summer break and provide diverse learning and experiential opportunities.

The summer vacation program was characterized by operating both a "center-type" program utilizing the Taejang Elementary School Community Care and Learning Center and an "out-of-school community resource utilization program" that leverages diverse educational resources in the community, thereby expanding the space for student learning and care from schools into the local community.

◇ Community Learning and Care Within Schools

First, the Taejang Elementary School Community Care and Learning Center operated various special programs for students from Taejang, Jamwon, and Mangpo elementary schools, reflecting student interests and needs during the vacation period.

Starting with a magic performance in which students and parents participated together on July 27, from July 28 to 31, the center conducted children's cooking classes where students made fresh fruit cakes and hot dogs, and kids gardening activities where students created their own works using succulents.

From August 3 to 14, through the "Talent Blossoming, Future Learning Classroom," seven courses were offered including experimental science, total crafts, magic, webtoons, cubes, drones, and Minecraft. The programs were designed to allow students to directly experience fields they were interested in and develop creativity, problem-solving abilities, and digital competencies.

Additionally, on August 12, a sand art experience was conducted combining performances and creative activities using sand, and on August 26, the "Five Senses Aqua Little Explorers Group 2" was operated at Aquaplanet Gwanggyo, where professional docents helped students learn about the characteristics and ecology of various marine organisms, providing students with hands-on experiential learning outside the classroom.

◇ Local Community Becomes a Learning Space

The Suwon Office of Education expanded operation of the "Out-of-School Community Resource Utilization Community-Wide Care and Learning Program" that leverages human and material resources in the local community for student learning and care during summer vacation.

From July 27 to August 21, the office operated 14 programs with a total of 300 students in collaboration with nine local institutions, enabling students to utilize various local educational spaces such as libraries, sports facilities, social cooperatives, and cultural arts institutions near their residential areas.

The programs were broadly structured considering diverse student interests and aptitudes. Educational activities in various fields were provided including Pilates, total crafts, board games, foreign language conversation, sports, art, safety education, reading activities, art and therapy, coding convergence, science robots, writing, history, book play, musicals, ensembles, and picture book art play, swimming, kids yoga, and kalimba.

Additionally, programs such as children's golf, children's physical growth sports classes, new sports, picture book reading classes, picture book science play, urban forest ecological play, growth exercise Pilates and jump rope, AI digital education, digital sports, soccer, and archery were operated, utilizing specialized facilities and expertise in the region.

In particular, by connecting professional facilities such as the Suwon Archery Range and local sports facilities that schools cannot routinely access with the community as educational spaces, students were able to experience sports and activities they seldom encounter in safe and professional environments. Through this, the office practiced "wall-breaking education" that removed boundaries between schools and local communities by connecting regional institutional expertise in not only sports but also cultural arts, science and digital, reading and humanities, and ecology with educational programs, and broadened the foundation for community-linked care and learning in which the entire community works together to raise children.

◇ Learning and Care for Students, Peace of Mind for Parents

The program was operated free of charge to reduce household burdens on education and care, and supported students in participating in diverse activities with peers in orderly daily routines during vacation. A parental satisfaction survey conducted after program operations confirmed high demand and satisfaction with the summer vacation care and learning program.

Superintendent Kim Seon-gyeong of Gyeonggi Province Suwon Office of Education stated, "Children's learning is not confined to within school walls but can become more enriched through diverse spaces and people in local communities," and added, "Going forward, in line with the purpose of 'wall-breaking education' that removes barriers between schools and communities, we will actively discover excellent educational resources in the region and connect them to student learning and care."

He further stated, "We will continue to build a more comprehensive Suwon-style community-wide care and learning system in which schools and local communities work together to support student growth, providing students with diverse learning and growth opportunities and offering parents a reassuring care environment."
