Yongin Special City Mayor Plans Public Complex Cultural Welfare Center at Former Special School Site in Seongbok-dong, Suji-gu
Yongin Special City announced on the 27th that it will proceed with the construction of a public complex cultural welfare center at the former special school site in Seongbok-dong, Suji-gu.
Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin Special City issued instructions at the '9th Elected Officials' Pledge Projects Progress Report Meeting' held on the 25th to swiftly proceed with the construction of a complex center equipped with cultural and sports facilities, public offices, and welfare facilities on approximately 10,627 square meters of land in the Seongbok-dong 177 area.
"We must end residents' prolonged concerns about the former special school site in Seongbok-dong," the mayor said. "We must devise measures to establish a complex facility where residents can enjoy cultural and artistic activities, use sports facilities, and receive welfare services, and present a blueprint for this."
The site was designated by the Gyeonggi Province Office of Education in 2014 as a location for a special school, but the school was built elsewhere, leaving the site vacant for an extended period.
