Namhansanseong to Host 'Forest Mountain Fortress City-Namhansanseong Autumn Festival' Starting September 5
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 27th that it will host the '2026 Forest Mountain Fortress City-Namhansanseong Autumn Festival' from September 5 to October 25 at the UNESCO World Heritage site Namhansanseong, where visitors can enjoy traditional culture, ecological and historical experiences, and performances.
Visitors can experience Sueojangdae guardsman training, traditional crafts workshops, historical storytelling with refreshments, fortress wall ecological tours, historical experience tours, eco-friendly activities, and family experience plays throughout Namhansanseong. Various performances ranging from traditional Korean music to contemporary works blended with tradition will also be presented.
Notably, during the Chuseok holiday from September 24 to 27, a 'Moonlight Stroll' with palace concert performances and night landscape lighting will be held at Namhansanseong Palace.
The Palace Concert will feature performances from Ensemble Thereu, Nam Sang-il, Project Rock, and Kim Duk-soo in succession, showcasing diverse stages from traditional music to performances combining tradition and modernity. During nighttime hours, landscape lighting will be installed around the palace to allow visitors to enjoy a different view of Namhansanseong than during the day.
During the same period, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experience programs will be operated at Namhansanseong Palace and its surroundings as part of the '2026 Namhansanseong Promotional Support Project.' The programs will be designed to allow visitors to experience the history and spaces of Namhansanseong in innovative ways using digital technology.
The event is free for all to participate in. Traditional culture and eco-friendly experiences can be enjoyed on-site during weekends and holidays without advance reservations. Ecological and historical tours as well as family experience plays operate on a reservation basis.
Jung Chang-seop, director of the Gyeonggi Namhansanseong World Heritage Center, said, "Namhansanseong is a UNESCO World Heritage site that transcends being merely a space preserving past history and is now shared by all the people of today," adding, "Through diverse programs where visitors can directly experience history, nature, and traditional culture, we will establish Namhansanseong as a cultural tourism destination that people want to revisit."
