Gwacheon City to Begin Gail-ro Pedestrian Pathway Construction in September

Gwacheon City is moving forward with improvements to the pedestrian environment on Gail-ro.

The city plans to construct new sidewalks in pedestrian-disconnected sections of Gail-ro, where traffic has significantly increased, starting in September, and to rehabilitate aging drainage facilities.

Gail-ro lacks pedestrian pathways in some sections, so citizens have either used U-shaped concrete drainage ditches, which were formerly installed in agricultural land, as makeshift sidewalks or have walked on the roadway itself. The city plans to demolish the existing drainage ditches, construct formal sidewalks, and install new storm sewers beneath the sidewalks.

This maintenance project will be conducted over approximately 211 meters from near Gail Gyeongno Seniors' Meeting Place, and will include sidewalk installation, storm sewer construction, and aging pavement repair. During construction, the city will focus on safety management by deploying traffic controllers.

Shin Gye-yong, Mayor of Gwacheon City, said, "We will do our utmost to improve the pedestrian environment so that citizens can travel safely," and added, "We apologize for any inconvenience during construction and will complete the project quickly and meticulously."
