'Gogsaek Chanran - The Moment Industry Becomes Art' Planning Exhibition Held
Gogsaek Newseum in Suwon will hold the planning exhibition 'Gogsaek Chanran - The Moment Industry Becomes Art' at its planning exhibition hall until October 11.
This is an art collaborative exhibition jointly organized by Gogsaek Newseum and Suwon Industrial Complex for the first time. Five companies from Suwon Industrial Complex and 10 artists participated to present approximately 50 works including paintings, installations, photographs, textile crafts, and digital videos.
The artists visited the production facilities of participating companies during July and August to examine production processes and industrial materials. They collected materials that had reached the end of their usefulness and expressed the production sites and labor time through art.
The exhibition is composed of three themes: △'Into the Scene,' which captures production sites from the artists' perspectives △'Beyond Use,' which reinterprets discarded materials as art works △and 'Unfamiliar Yet Interesting,' which documents the work creation process.
Also on display is 'My Work Tools,' which industrial complex employees have drawn directly. The exhibition incorporates industrial materials into the exhibition space composition, such as using printed circuit boards (PCBs) from participating companies as work description panels and frames for documentary photographs.
During the exhibition period, programs including artist talks and citizen participation programs using industrial materials will be operated.
Exhibition hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The museum is closed every Monday and admission is free. The exhibition opening ceremony will be held on September 17 at 3 p.m.
Lee Chang-se, director of Gogsaek Newseum, said, "I hope the industrial complex will expand beyond a production space into a space where artists, citizens, and workers together create regional culture."
Jung In, president of Suwon Industrial Complex Management Corporation, stated, "This is a meaningful exhibition that sheds new light on the materials of the industrial site and the daily lives of workers through the perspective of artists," adding, "We will expand opportunities for cooperation so that industry and art can grow together."
