Yongin City Council Holds Second Consecutive "Next Generation Exchange" Meeting with East Timorese Youth

The Yongin City Council (Council Chair Jang Jeong-soon) met on the 10th with students and officials from St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic School in East Timor to exchange experiences and thoughts in the fields of culture, education, and welfare, providing a time for next-generation exchange between the two countries.

In particular, this meeting is meaningful in that the connection initiated last year by Kim Hee-young, Chair of the Ethics Special Committee, when she invited East Timorese youth to the Yongin City Council, has continued for two consecutive years.

At the event, Council Chair Jang Jeong-soon and Chair of the Culture and Welfare Committee Hwang Jae-wook, along with members of the Culture and Welfare Committee, welcomed the East Timorese youth and shared diverse perspectives in the fields of culture, education, and welfare, adding significance to the next-generation exchange.

Kim Hee-young, Chair of the Ethics Special Committee, stated, "The connection that began last year with an introduction to the council has become even more meaningful as we meet again this year to exchange thoughts and experiences on our respective cultures, education, and welfare," and added, "I hope this meeting will develop not as a one-time visit, but as a sustained connection linking the future generations of Yongin and East Timor."

Council Chair Jang Jeong-soon said, "I sincerely welcome the East Timorese youth who have visited the Yongin City Council following last year's visit," and expressed hope that "this meeting will be a meaningful time to understand each other's cultures and experience a broader world."

The event was attended by Rev. Peter Seo Buk-won, pastor of Sanghyeon-dong Cathedral, and church officials. Four students from St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic School in East Timor and Sister Columba Seo Gun-soon from the Korean Martyrs Convent participated in the event.

The Yongin City Council plans to continue expanding opportunities for exchange with next-generation groups both domestically and internationally, so that youth can experience diverse cultures and communities, communicate with one another, and grow.
